We don’t walk alone.

March 2020. That’s when our world changed. 21 months in which we’ve navigated ways to do business, to connect, to keep safe, care for others, and to keep moving forward. As we near the end of 2021, we look back at the lessons we’ve learned and the ways we’ve had to change the way we work.

Hybrid working works for us. Being in the office twice a week to connect with the team has been a welcome complement to our home offices. It has also helped us manage the erratic load-shedding schedules to ensure that we’re always connected and working.

“Love is not patronizing and charity isn’t about pity, it is about love. Charity and love are the same – with charity you give love, so don’t just give money but reach out your hand instead.” – Mother Teresa

The idiom claims that you cannot truly know someone’s circumstances until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes. Earlier this year we were approached by Thelma Mohlala, a 31-year-old single mother. She comes from a small village, Mamone, in the Jane-Furse district. It is an area which delivers a difficult life for its citizens, especially its children.

In winter most children are forced to brave the cold walk to school barefoot and in the flimsiest of clothing. Most of them opt to drop out of school rather than brave those conditions. We were asked to contribute to her initiative of providing school shoes to these children.

In August this year, we donated shoes to the learners at Makubarate and Marotobale Primary Schools in Mamone, Limpopo.

iKON will be also donating school essentials to the learners at Masehleng Primary School in Masehleng Village in Limpopo just before schools open in January 2022. If you are able to contribute in any way, please reach out to Rantobeng. We might not be able to walk a mile in everyone’s shoes, but we can do our small part to make sure these children are able to keep moving forward.
